A mobile app that combines gamified lessons, cultural visuals, and modern UI design to make learning Japanese inspiring, accessible, and visually delightful.
UI with soft textures inspired by Japanese rice paper and ink brush aesthetics that helps users set their language, skill level, and study routine before starting their journey. Includes interactive kanji writing, vocabulary and listening tests, plus clear grammar explanations — all guided by the friendly tutor Aiko.
The challenges
The challenge was to create a learning experience that balances depth with simplicity. Japanese has complex writing systems, multiple difficulty levels, and a high cognitive load for beginners. The goal was to design an interface that feels intuitive, reduces friction, and keeps learners motivated throughout long-term study.
The Solutions
We created a structured, gamified learning system that adapts to users pace and skill level. Clear lesson flows, spaced-repetition practice, and visual progress tracking helped transform complex Japanese concepts into a smooth, intuitive journey. The interface focuses on clarity, minimal cognitive load, and steady motivation through every learning stage.
